Random Acts of Kindness

Tell us about acts you or a loved one have created. On Rosh Hashanah, these “random acts,” with no names attached, will be read aloud and sent heavenward.

We are told that the month of Ellul, just preceding the High Holidays is a time to prepare ourselves mentally and emotionally for the Days of Awe. At BAJC, we have initiated a wonderful tradition of focusing during this month on “random acts of kindness” that we can perform for others: acts of kindness for others from which we ourselves derive no discernible benefit – except of course the inner glow that results when we create such "Messianic moments” for others.

Examples of “random acts of kindness:”

Visiting a shut in, an elderly person or a person who is ill
Writing a letter of appreciation to a present or former teacher
Helping an overworked individual get through the day
Providing support to a person from a racial or religious group which has been under attack
Paying the toll for the car behind you at the toll booth
Marking the back of your Vermont license so that, upon your death, your organs might save the life of another.
