Hunger Banquet, Sunday November 16
On Nov. 16, after yet another grey, November-in-Vermont day, about
seventy people gathered together at the West Village meeting House
for a Hunger Banquet jointly sponsored by BAJC and All Souls Church.
The event was a fundraiser for both Oxfam and the local food shelf
at the Brattleboro Drop-In Center—we made over 450.00$!! The
'banquet' was a dramatization of world food and resource distribution
which gave each participant a much greater awareness of these issues
in a very personal way. We had the honor of hearing from Melinda
Bussino, director of the Brattleboro Area Drop-In Center about local
hunger and poverty, as well as three graduate students from SIT
who spoke very powerfully about hunger in their native countries
of India, Ethiopia and Kenya.
Everyone left the Hunger Banquet with a much greater awareness
of hunger issues and hopefully with an increased motivation to put
these feelings into 'tikkun olam'—healing the world.
If you are interested in volunteering to help organize further events
with the Social Action Committee, we very much welcome your participation!
